Women's Tennis Team Takes Sixth at CCIW

NAPERVILLE, Ill. - The Elmhurst College women's tennis team wrapped up the 2008 season by placing sixth at the CCIW Championships.  The Bluejays finished with 13 points, 10 points in front of seventh-place finisher Millikin University.

Wheaton College won the team title for the fourth straight year, finishing with 78 points. Carthage College (57 points) finished second while Illinois Wesleyan University (27 points) placed third.

Alex Stark (Batavia/H.S.) was the Bluejays' top finisher, taking home third place at No. 6 singles. Stark scored a 6-4, 6-3 first-round win over North Central's Cristina Madrigal to move to the semi-finals. Stark fell to Wheaton's Lindsey Hallett 6-0, 6-0 in the semi finals but rebounded in the consolation semifinals to defeat Augustana's Justine Stukas 8-5. Stark closed out the tournament with an 8-1 win over Illinois Wesleyan's Cate Hunter in the third place match.

Stephanie Ruff (Elmhurst/Nazareth) and Megan Kallemeyn (Tinley Park/Chicago Christian) each score a point by winning a consolation match at No. 3 singles, and No. 5 singles, respectively.  Ruff and Kallemeyn also combined to win a consolation round match at No. 2 doubles.
