Elmhurst Softball Team Sweeps Millikin

ELMHURST, Ill. - The Elmhurst College softball team ran its winning streak to five games by sweeping a doubleheader from Millikin University. Elmhurst moved to 10-15 overall and improved to 4-4 in the CCIW.

The Bluejays took game one 13-8 and won the night cap 10-3.

ELMHURST 13, MILLIKIN 8 - Trailing 8-7 after four innings, the Bluejays broke the game open by scoring three runs in the fifth and sixth innings.

Beth Cann (Peotone/H.S.) led the Bluejay hit parade by finishing a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate. She scored three runs and drove in three. Lauren Ventrella (Orland Hills/Andrew), Michelle Fournier (Oak Lawn/Richards) and Vanessa Kalal (Montgomery/Oswego) recorded two hits apiece in the win. Ventrella scored a pair while driving in a run. Kalal and Rachel Pietrucha (Orland Hills/Andrew) drove in two runs apiece.

Kalal earned the win and improved to 6-6 on the season. She allowed 13 hits and seven earned runs in seven innings of work. She walked four and struck out seven.

ELMHURST 10, MILLIKIN 3 - Elmhurst overcame a 2-0 deficit in the fifth inning to earn a 10-3 win. The Bluejay broke the game wide open by sending 13 batters to the plate and scoring nine runs in the fifth inning. Elmhurst banged out nine hits and capitalized on three Millikin errors in the big inning.

Pietrucha led the Bluejay offense by finishing 3-for-4 at the plate with a pair of doubles. Cann and Becca Zumpf (Frankfort/Lincoln-Way East) each recorded two hits in the victory. Six different Bluejays drove in runs in the win.

Jaci Hall (Naperville/Waubonsie Valley) scattered nine hits and allowed only two earned runs while earning the complete game victory.

Elmhurst hosts Clarke College on Saturday, April 19.
