Softball Team Takes Two From Benedictine

LISLE, Ill. - The Elmhurst College softball team improved to 8-15 on the season by sweeping a doubleheader from Benedictine University. Elmhurst rallied to take game one 9-6 in extra innings. The Bluejays then pounded Benedictine 14-6 in the night cap.
ELMHURST 9, BENEDICTINE 6 - Elmhurst scored four times in the eighth inning to earn a 9-6 come-from-behind win.
Trailing by a pair in the seventh inning, the Bluejays took advantage of a Benedictine error to even the game at 5-5 and force extra innings.
In the eighth inning, Rachel Pietrucha (Orland Hills/Andrew) delivered a two-run double to put the Bluejays up for good.
Michelle Fournier (Oak Lawn/Richards) led the Bluejays with a 3-for-3 day at the plate. Fournier smacked a double and a triple, while scoring two runs. She also drove in three in the win.
Pietrucha and Vanessa Kalal (Montgomery/Oswego) each drove in two in the win.
Kalal earned the win for the Bluejays. She allowed nine runs and five earned runs while pitching all eight innings. She walked six and fanned five.
ELMHURST 14, BENEDICTINE 6 - Elmhurst banged out 14 hits while earning a 14-6 five-inning victory.
The Bluejays scored five runs in the first and scored six times in the third. The Bluejays tacked on three runs in the fourth to open up a 14-3 lead. Elmhurst took advantage of five Benedictine errors to score six unearned runs.
Fournier and Tia Martini (Addison/Driscoll Catholic) each recorded three hits to lead the Elmhurst at the plate. Rachel Hartman (Collinsville, Mo./H.S.) and Beth Cann (Peotone/H.S.) each drove in a pair of runs in the win.
Jaci Hall (Naperville/Waubonsie Valley) earned the win for Elmhurst. Hall allowed eight hits and three earned runs in five innings of work. She walked one and struck out one.
