Softball Team Drops Pair to Augustana

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. -The Elmhurst College softball team slipped to 1-3 in CCIW play following a pair of losses at Augustana College. Elmhurst dropped game one 12-4 and fell in the night cap 6-3. The Bluejays fell to 4-13 overall while Augustana improved to 13-7 (2-0 CCIW).
AUGUSTANA 12, ELMHURST 4 - Augustana outhit Elmhurst 14-4 in five-inning win. The Vikings scored in every inning in the victory.
After Elmhurst evened the score at 3-3 in the top of the second, the Vikings scored three in the bottom of the frame to take the lead for good. Augustana added two runs in the third, three runs in the fourth and another run in the fifth to earn the eight-run win.
Vanessa Kalal (Montgomery/Oswego) drove in a pair of runs to lead the Bluejay offense.
Kalal took the loss from the circle. She was tagged for 14 hits and 11 runs in four innings of work. She walked one and struck out three.
AUGUSTANA 6, ELMHURST 3 - Augustana scored three times in the top of the seventh to break open a 3-3 tie and earn the 6-3 victory.
Becca Zumpf recorded a pair of hits and drove in two runs to lead the Bluejays' offense in the loss.
Jaci Hall (Naperville/Waubonsie Valley) took the loss, allowing eight hits and six runs (only three earned) in seven innings. She walked three and fanned six.
