Elmhurst Softball Team Splits Pair With North Park

CHICAGO, Ill. - The Elmhurst College softball team split a pair of conference games with North Park University to improve to 3-11 overall on the season.
North Park (8-6, 1-1 CCIW) took game one, winning 11-3 in six innings. Elmhurst (1-1 CCIW) bounced back to take the night cap 6-2.
The games were originally scheduled to played at Elmhurst, but were moved to North Park due to poor field conditions.
NORTH PARK 11, ELMHURST 3 - North Park banged out 12 hits and took advantage of four Elmhurst errors to score an 11-3 victory.
The Vikings scored seven unearned runs and manufactured runs by playing small ball. Only two of the Vikings' 12 hits were for extra bases.
Elmhurst was limited to only six hits in the loss. Beth Cann (Peotone/H.S.) recorded two hits to lead the Bluejays. Becca Zumpf (Frankfort/Lincoln-Way East) and Tia Martini (Addison/Driscoll Catholic) each drove in a run in the loss.
Jaci Hall (Naperville/Waubonsie Valley) suffered the loss for Elmhurst. Hall allowed 12 hits and 11 runs (only four earned). She walked six and struck out three in six innings of work.
ELMHURST 6, NORTH PARK 2 - Elmhurst bounced back to earn the doubleheader split with a 6-2 win in game two.
Cann, Jill Karsa (Downers Grove/Downers Grove South), Rachel Pietrucha (Orland Hills/Andrew), and Vanessa Kalal (Montgomery/Oswego) led the Bluejay attack with two hits apiece. Pietrucha and Cann each drove in two while Karsa and Kalal added an RBI apiece.
Kalal earned the win from the circle, throwing a complete game. She scattered four hits and allowed only two runs in seven innings. She walked six and struck out six to earn the win.
Elmhurst hosts Dominican University on Thursday, April 3.
