Softball Team Closes Spring Trip By Dropping Two

ORANGE, Calif. - The Elmhurst College softball team closed out its spring trip to the Sun West Tournament by dropping a pair of contests. The Bluejays were hammered by Williams College 17-0 and then fell to Hope International University 7-6 in extra innings. Elmhurst finished the tournament with a 2-10 record.
WILLIAMS 17, ELMHURST 0 - Williams led 9-0 after three innings and blew the game wide open by scoring eight times in the fourth en route to a 17-0 victory.
Lauren Ventrella (Orland Hills/Andrew) and Amanda Bowlin (Ballwin, Mo./Marquette) were the only Bluejays to collect hits, as the squad was held to just two hits in five innings.
Jaci Hall (Naperville/Waubonsie Valley) made the start and took the loss from the circle. Hall surrendered five hits and five runs (four earned) in 2.2 innings. She walked one and struck out two. Vanessa Kalal (Montgomery/Oswego) worked 2.1 innings and allowed six hits and 11 runs (only five earned). She walked three and fanned two.
HOPE INTERNATIONAL 7, ELMHURST 6 - Elmhurst closed out its spring trip with a 2-10 record after falling in 10 innings to Hope International.
The Bluejays scored twice in the top of the seventh to force extra innings. Elmhurst took a 6-5 lead in the eighth inning but Hope International tied the game on a wild pitch.
Ventrella, Melissa McCarthy (Ballwin, Mo./Marquette) and Rachel Pietrucha (Orland Hills/Andrew) finished with two hits apiece to guide the Bluejays' offense.
Kalal worked eight inning and allowed 12 hits and six runs (four earned). She walked only one, while striking out four. Hall took the loss in relief, throwing one inning and allowing one run (unearned) and one hit.
