Softball Team Drops Two at Sun West Tournament

ORANGE, Calif. - The Elmhurst College softball team fell to 2-8 on the season following a pair of losses at the Sun West Tournament in California. Elmhurst fell to Linfield College 16-10 in a slugfest and then were blanked 9-0 by Williamette University.
LINFIELD 16, ELMHURST 10 - Elmhurst jumped out to a 10-2 lead over the defending national champion, but Linfield scored 14 unanswered runs to earn the 16-10 victory.
Elmhurst finished with 12 hits while Linfield banged out 18.
Amanda Bowlin (Ballwin, Mo./Marquette) led the Bluejay offense with three hits while also scoring a pair of runs. Michelle Fournier (Oak Lawn/Richards) and Tia Martini (Addison/Driscoll Catholic) recorded two hits apiece in the loss. Lauren Ventrella (Orland Hills/Andrew) drove in three runs while Maureen Roderick (Alton/H.S.) added a pair of RBI in the loss.
Jaci Hall (Naperville/Waubonsie Valley) made the start and earned a no-decision. Hall worked two innings and and allowed five hits and five runs (three earned) while striking out three. Vanessa Kalal (Montgomery/Oswego) took the loss in relief. Kalal was tagged for 13 hits and 11 runs (nine earned) in five innings of work. She walked three and fanned two.
WILLAMETTE 9, ELMHURST 0 - The Bluejays slipped to 2-8 after suffering their second shutout loss of the Sun West Tournament.
Willamette recorded 12 hits while holding Elmhurst to only four. Bowlin recorded two of the Bluejays' four hits.
Hall took the loss after allowing 11 hits and nine runs (seven earned) in 3.2 innings of work.
