ORANGE, Calif. - The Bluejay softball team moved to 2-6 on the year by splitting a pair of games at the Sun West Tournament in California.  Elmhurst fell to Wellesley College 9-0 but bounced back to defeat Hope International University 5-4 in extra innings.

WELLESLEY 9, ELMHURST 0 - Wellesley broke open a 1-0 game by scoring four times in the fifth and then added four more in the seventh inning.

Wellesley recorded 12 hits while holding Elmhurst to only three hits on the day.

Jaci Hall (Naperville/Waubonsie Valley) took the loss, allowing seven hits and four runs in 4.1 innings of work. She struck out five in the loss.

ELMHURST 5, HOPE INTERNATIONAL 4 - The Bluejays scored their second win of the season by knocking off Hope International 5-4 in extra innings.

After Hope International failed to score in the top of the eighth, Becca Zumpf (Frankfort/Lincoln-Way East) lifted a sacrifice fly to drive in the winning run in the bottom of the eighth.

Amanda Bowlin (Ballwin, Mo./Marquette) drove in two runs while Samantha Burmeister (Winter Park, Fla./Trinity Prep) and Melissa McCarthy (Ballwin, Mo./Marquette) drove in one run apiece.

Vanessa Kalal (Montgomery/Oswego) earned the win in relief. Kalal worked a scoreless eighth inning to notch the victory. Brenda Ferguson (Villa Park/Willowbrook) made the start and took a no-decision. She worked four innings and allowed just five hits and two runs (one earned).
