Women's Soccer Team Suffers 1-0 Loss to Millikin

Box Score

ELMHURST, Ill. - The Elmhurst College women's soccer team suffered a disappointing 1-0 loss to Millikin University at Berens Park.

Elmhurst (10-6 overall, 3-3 in the CCIW) had a chance to clinch a spot in the upcoming CCIW Tournament with a victory, but the Bluejays' tournament chances suffered a serious blow with the defeat.

Millikin (11-7-1, 3-3 in the CCIW) grabbed a 1-0 lead in the 18th minute and the Big Blue made the lead stand up for the final 72 minutes.

Allison Horne scored Millikin's lone goal 17:13 into the match. Horne raced into the top of the box, jumped over Elmhurst goalkeeper Allison Korbel who had come out of the net and slid to challenge for the ball, and fired the ball into the back of the net.

Elmhurst outshot Millikin 18-11 in the contest and had a 6-3 shots on goal advantage.

Korbel recorded two saves in net for the Bluejays while Natalie Robertaccio stopped six shots to notch the shutout in goal for Millikin.

Elmhurst closes out the 2009 regular season by traveling to Augustana College on Saturday, October 31. The Bluejays will need a win over the Vikings, and a loss by Millikin in order to qualify for the CCIW Tournament.
