Women's Soccer Team Drops Overtime Heartbreaker to Carroll

ELMHURST, Ill. - The Elmhurst College women's soccer team slipped to 4-11-1 on the season following a heartbreaking 2-1 overtime loss to Carroll College.

Carroll (12-2-1) scored the game-winner in the 99th minute when Kari Scheelk headed home a corner kick from Alyssa Low to break a 1-1 tie.

Elmhurst found themselves trailing early, as Carroll's Megan Blenner knocked home a ball that had deflected around the net off a corner kick in the ninth minute.

The Bluejays evened the score in the 73rd minute when Laura Valgiusti (Lombard/Glenbard East) scored her second goal of the season. A corner kick by Kirbie Knutsen (Bettendorf, Iowa/Pleasant Valley) was headed by Kelsey Caldwell (Plainfield/Plainfield South) right to Valgiusti who knocked the ball home.

Carroll outshot Elmhurst 18-12 in the contest.

Jessica Eberle (Bloomington, Ind./North) and Allison Korbel (Schaumburg/H.S.) combined to record six saves in goal for Elmhurst.

The Bluejays play at Dominican University on Monday, October 22.
