Women's Soccer Squad Falls to Top-Ranked Thunder

ELMHURST, Ill. -The Elmhurst College women's soccer team had its two-game winning streak snapped in a 6-1 loss to the defending national champions and top-ranked Wheaton College.
Elmhurst (3-5-1, 1-1-0 CCIW) ran into the buzz saw that is Wheaton's offense. The Thunder were clicking on offense right from the start, jumping out to a 1-0 lead off a Kari Klynstra goal in the opening 2:30 of the game. Three straight goals by Taryne Lee, all assisted by Sarah Richardson, gave the Thunder a 4-0 lead. Maria Della Torre tacked on a goal in the 37th minute to give Wheaton (10-0-0, 2-0-0 CCIW) a 5-0 lead at halftime.
Elmhurst cracked the scoreboard in the second half when Courtney Constantino (Strongsville, Ohio/H.S.) headed home a goal off a Cassandra Giese (Batavia/H.S.) corner kick.
Wheaton's Elizabeth Fazio tacked on the game's final goal in the 80th minute to give the Thunder the 6-1 victory.
Wheaton dominated the contest on offense, outshooting the Bluejays 27-2, including a 19-1 shots on goal advantage.
Jessica Eberle (Bloomington, Ind./North) recorded five saves while allowing five goals in the first half. Allison Korbel (Schaumburg/H.S.) stopped seven shots and allowed one goal while playing the second half in the net.
Elmhurst will play at Wartburg College on Saturday, September 29, at 1:00 p.m.
