Bluejay Bowlers Post 4-10 Record In Missouri

WARRENSBURG, Mo. - The Elmhurst College bowling team kicked off the 2009-10 season by posting a 4-10 overall record at a pair of tournaments in Missouri.

The Bluejays kicked off the road trip with a 2-2 record at Central Region Duals in Warrensburg, Mo. Playing in an alternate-bowler total pinfall baker match, the Bluejays defeated #12 Minnesota State University-Mankao (951-864) and #4 University of Central Missouri (1080-1032) while also falling to #2 Vanderbilt University (891-900) and to seventh-ranked Arkansas State University (965-1021).

On Saturday (October 24), the Bluejays posted a 1-4 record in five-player matches. Elmhurst began the day with a 926-894 loss to #14 Southern University. Shannon Grimes bowled a 194 to pace the Bluejays in the loss while Sarah Paul added a 193. The Bluejays suffered a 926-856 loss to second-ranked Vanderbilt despite Bethany Holden's team-leading 191.

The Bluejays got a win on the scoreboard by posting a 936-919 over Stephen F. Austin. Shannon Grimes bowled a 277 to pace the Bluejays in the victory. The Bluejays closed out the day with losses to Louisiana Tech.  (896-912) and to Nebraska (917-982). Amanda Warwick scored a 220 against Louisiana Tech and followed that performance with a team-leading 216 in the loss to Nebraska.

Elmhurst closed up the road trip by posting a 1-4 mark at the Greater Ozark Invitational in Springfield, Mo. Playing a best-of-seven baker matches format, The Bluejays dropped a 4-2 decision to Southern and a 4-1 contest to Vanderbilt. The Bluejays snapped their four-game skid with a 4-3 win over #14 Central Missouri. Elmhurst fell to Nebraska 4-1 and closed out the tournament with a 7-3 loss to Central Missouri.
