Bluejay Bowlers Post 4-9 Record at Cheeseland Classic

WHITEWATER, Wis. - The Elmhurst College bowling team finished the 2007 Cheeseland Classic Tournament with a 4-9 overall record.  The Bluejays moved to 7-10 overall with the finish.

Elmhurst began the three-day tournament on a positive note, posting a 3-1 record in the total pinfall baker matches where each team alternates bowlers every frame. The Bluejays scored a 711-628 win over Southern University before falling 622-734 to the University of Nebraska. Elmhurst rebounded from the loss with a 667-619 win over St. Peter's College. The Bluejays closed out the day with a 685-627 win over Adelphi University.

The Bluejays struggled on day two of the tournament which featured standard five-on-five matches. Elmhurst dropped all five of their dual matches, beginning with a 706-853 loss to the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. Katie Gilman (River Grove/East Leyden) bowled a 156 to lead the Bluejays in the loss. Elmhurst dropped a 737-890 contest to New Jersey City University despite Becky Wright (Des Plaines/Maine West) rolling a team-high 178.

Wright rolled a 203 in the Bluejays 843-910 loss to Vanderbilt University. Elmhurst dropped its fourth straight match to Fairleigh Dickinson University, falling by a 790-957 score. Bethany Holden (Freeport/H.S.) rolled a 188 to lead the Bluejays in the loss. Elmhurst closed out the day with an 846-950 loss to Arkansas State University. Wright bowled a 200 to pace Elmhurst in the loss.

The Bluejays began day three of the tournament with a 848-895 loss to Minnesota State University-Mankato, despite Wright rolling a 199.  Elmhurst snapped its six-game skid with a 779-777 win over Adelphi. Sarah Bell (Morris/H.S.) and Gilman each rolled a 166 to pace the Bluejays.

Elmhurst wrapped up the tournament with a pair of losses in baker matches. The Bluejays fell 668-756 to Wisconsin-Whitewater and 728-737 to New Jersey City.

Elmhurst bowls at the Maverick Challenge on November 15-17.
