Women's Bowling Team Kicks Off Season With 3-1 Mark
Dyer, Ind. - The Elmhurst College women's bowling team kicked off the 2007-08 season by posting a 3-1 record in dual competition against Calumet College-St. Joseph.
Elmhurst scored wins in two of the three regular matches and then posted a win in the baker-series match.
The Bluejays captured game one 1038-1031 and were led by Sarah Bell's (Morris/H.S.) 245. Becky Wright (Des Plaines/Maine West) rolled a 234 while Michelle Cree (Villa Park/Willowbrook) and Katie Gilman (River Grove/East Leyden) bowled a 204 and 202, respectively.
Calumet-St. Joseph scored a 1053-913 win in game two. Bell was again the top finisher for Elmhurst, rolling a 233.
In game three, Bell closed out the 10th frame with three straight strikes, giving the Bluejays a 949-948 one-pin win. Alyssa Vogler (New Lenox/Lincoln-Way Central) chipped in with a 213 while Sarah Paul (Naperville/Central) rolled a 208.
In the alternating bowler baker-match, the Bluejays found themselves trailing three games to one. Elmhurst scored a 192-146 win in game four, a 158-143 victory in game six, and completed the come-from-behind win with a narrow 171-168 in game seven.
Bell set a school record by rolling a series best 702, averaging a 234 for the day. Paul also had a solid debut, averaging a 202 in two games.
