Tethnie Werner
Head Coach
Tethnie Werner enters the 2008-09 season in her second year as the head coach of the Elmhurst College women's basketball program. She is the 14th coach in the Bluejays' 35-year history of women's basketball.
In her first season as the Bluejays' head coach, Werner guided Elmhurst to an 8-6 record in conference play (12-14 overall), a six-game improvement from the previous season. The Bluejays also qualified for the CCIW Tournament for the first time since the 2004-05 season.
Werner is certainly no stranger to Elmhurst College, having served as an assistant coach under Hope Semper for four seasons from 2002-2006.
In addition to serving as Elmhurst's junior varsity head coach during those seasons, Werner helped lead the Bluejay women to two of their most successful seasons. Elmhurst closed out the 2004-05 season with a 15-11 mark and qualified for its first ever CCIW Tournament appearance. In 2005-06, the Bluejays finished 17-8, the team's best finish since the 1985-86 season. It marked only the second time in school history that the team posted back-to-back seasons of at least 15 wins. The 2005-06 squad’s 7-7 record in CCIW play, marked its best league record in 15 years.
Werner spent the 2006-07 season as an assistant coach at Lake Superior State University. While at Lake Superior Sate, Werner helped guide the Lakers to an 18-9 overall record while also serving as the team's recruiting coordinator.
Prior to arriving at Elmhurst, Werner spent several years coaching at the high school level including stops at Lyndon High School (Lyndon, Kan.), Emporia High School (Emporia, Kan.) and Jefferson High School (Conception Jct., Mo.).
A 1999 graduate of Emporia State University, where she earned a bachelor's degree in physical education, Werner spent a season as a member of the school's NCAA Division II basketball team.
Werner received a Master of Science in Education degree in physical education and coaching from Ball State University in 2005.
Werner currently resides in Downers Grove.
