Red-Hot Bluejay Women Hammer North Park 72-55

ELMHURST, Ill. - The Elmhurst College women's basketball team led from wire to wire and handily defeated North Park University 72-55. Elmhurst has now won five of its last six contests.
The Bluejays (16-6, 6-5 CCIW) jumped out to a quick 8-0 lead and never looked back. North Park maged to trim the lead down to just five points at 10-5, but got no closer the rest of the way. The Bluejays used a 12-7 run to take a 31-12 lead with 5:49 to play in the half. The Vikings closed the half on an 11-3 run to bring the Bluejays' lead down to 34-23 at halftime.
After North Park scored the opening bucket of the second half, the Bluejays ripped of eight straight points to take a 17-point advantage. Elmhurst built its lead to as many as 23 points on five occasions in the second half with the last coming at 70-47 with 4:12 to play.
Elmhurst finished the contest shooting 50 percent from the floor (29-of-58) and 40.0 percent from 3-point range (4-of-10).
North Park finished the game shooting 38.8 percent (19-of-49) from the floor and 36.4 percent from beyond the arc (4-of-11).
Elmhurst won the battle on the glass, outrebounding North Park 39-25. The Bluejays also made the most of North Park's mistakes, turning 17 turnovers into 20 points.
Aja Terrier (Evanston-Township) led a balanced Bluejay attack, finishing with 18 points and eight rebounds. She shot 6-of-13 from the floor. Candice Sutton (Matteson-Rich South) added 13 points. Heather Furr (Plainfield-H.S.) added 12 points along with seven rebounds. Ashley Stein (Mundelein-H.S.) finished with 11 points and seven rebounds in the win. Brittany Bobruk (Darien-Downers Grove South) came off the bench to add eight points and six boards.
North Park was led by Laura Mount's 15 points 4-of-11 shooting. Bethany Conrad added 12 points off the bench.
The Bluejays win, coupled with a Carthage College loss to North Central, has moved Elmhurst into a tie for the fourth and final spot to the CCIW tournament. Elmhurst and Carthage trail North Park (7-5 in CCIW play), by only a half game in the standings. The winner of the CCIW Tournament receives the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
