Women's Hoops Team Falls to Wheaton

ELMHURST, Ill. - Wheaton College scored the game's final 14 points to knock off the Elmhurst College women's basketball team 57-42. The loss dropped Elmhurst to 17-7 overall and 7-6 in CCIW play. The Bluejays are now in a tie for the fourth and final spot for the CCIW Tournament.
Wheaton took control of a closely contested contest down the game's final nine minutes. Wheaton held Elmhurst to just one basket, and none down the final 7:43.
Wheaton had an eight-point advantage early in the first half, but five straight points by the Bluejays trimmed the deficit down to just three points (28-25) at halftime.
The Bluejays were within a bucket of tying or taking the lead on multiple occasions. Elmhurst had six possessions to either tie the score or take the lead but could not knock down the shot. The Bluejays turned the ball over five times and were 0-for-9 from the floor in the final 7:43.
Elmhurst finished the contest shooting just 29.8 percent (17-of-57) from the floor and 25 percent (4-of-16) from downtown. The Bluejays committed 21 turnovers, leading to 24 Wheaton points.
Wheaton shot 38.2 percent from the floor (21-of-55) and 30.8 percent from downtown (4-of-13).
Heather Furr (Plainfield-H.S.) tallied 13 points and nine rebounds to lead Elmhurst in the loss. Aja Terrier (Evanston-Township) added 12 points and six rebounds. Ashley Stein (Mundelein-H.S.) finished with seven points.
Kathleen Fidelia came off the bench to spark the Thunder. She hit 7-of-9 shots from the floor to finish with a game-high 16 points. Elizabeth Fox added 12 points and Brittany Cooper finished with eight in the win.
The Bluejays travel to Decatur on Tuesday, for their regular season finale against Millikin. The Bluejays must win the game in order to to keep their CCIW Tournament hopes alive. Wheaton, Illinois Wesleyan and North Park have all clinched spots in the tournament field. In addition to needing a win at Millikin, Elmhurst will need Wheaton College to defeat Carthage College in order to qualify for the tournament.
