Women's Hoops Team Sinks Augustana 60-49

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. - The Elmhurst College women's basketball team improved to 13-5 overall (3-4 CCIW) with a 60-49 road win at Augustana College. The Vikings slipped to 6-13 overall (0-8 CCIW).
Elmhurst trailed only after the opening bucket. Behind 2-0, Heather Furr (Plainfield-H.S.) knocked down a 3-pointer to Elmhurst up 3-2. They would never trail the rest of the game. The Bluejays slowly built a nine-point advantage (17-8) before Augustana cut the gap down to just three points (28-25) at halftime.
After an Aja Terrier (Evanston-Township) bucket to open the second half put Elmhurst up by five points, the Vikings' Kelly Sikora sank a 3-pointer to bring Augustana to within two at 30-28. Elmhurst slowly began to pull away, using an 8-0 run to push its lead to 10 points with 11:30 to play. The Bluejays built their lead to 15 points (52-37) with seven minutes remaining and never looked back, coming away with the 60-49 win.
Elmhurst shot 33.9 percent from the floor (21-of-62) and 31.6 percent (6-of-19) from 3-point range.
Augustana finished the game shooting 39.6 percent from the field (21-of-53) and just 18.2 percent from beyond the arc (2-of-11).
Terrier led the way for Elmhurst, netting a game-high 22 points on 9-of-14 shooting. She also added six steals in the win. Furr added 13 points and a team-high eight rebounds. Candice Sutton (Matteson-Rich South) chipped in with seven points.
Augustana was led by Nancy Marcum's 13 points on 6-of-8 shooting from the floor. Marcum also grabbed a game-high nine rebounds in the loss. Sikora also reached double figures, pulling down 11 rebounds.
Elmhurst will look to win its third straight contest on Tuesday, January 31, when the Bluejays play host to defending national champion Millikin University at 7:30 p.m.
