Women's Hoops Team Falls to Wheaton

WHEATON, Ill. - The Elmhurst College women's basketball team dropped its fourth straight contest, falling to Wheaton College 62-51. The Bluejays slipped to 11-5 overall and 1-4 in the CCIW while Wheaton improved to 14-2 overall, 4-1 in the CCIW.

The Bluejays never led in the contest, falling behind 17-0 in the game's opening minutes. Elmhurst managed to trim the lead back down to eight points in the first half, but Wheaton responded with a run to take a 33-14 lead at halftime.

Elmhurst came out strong in the opening minutes of the second half. The Bluejays opened up a 16-4 run to cut the Thunder's lead down to just seven points. Wheaton answered right back with a 9-0 spurt to push its lead back to 16 points. The Bluejays would bring the deficit back down to eight points, but would get no closer as the Thunder hung on for the 62-51 win.

The Bluejays finished the game shooting 35.1 percent (20-of-57) and 29.4 percent (5-of-19) from 3-point range.

Wheaton shot 41.4 percent from the floor (24-of-58) and 19 percent (4-of-21) from beyond the arc. The Thunder dominated on the glass, outrebounding Elmhurst 45-29. Wheaton scored 23 points on 20 offensive boards.

Heather Furr (Plainfield-H.S.) led the Bluejays in the loss with 15 points. Vicky Miner (Evanston-Township) added 11 points. Aja Terrier (Evanston-Township) recorded a double-double, finishing with 10 points and 11 rebounds.

Wheaton was led by Jill Trenz's 15-point, 15-rebound performance. Elizabeth Fox added 14 points and six boards while Chase Pouns added 11 points.

Elmhurst will look to snap its four-game skid on Tuesday, January 24, when the Bluejays host North Central College at 7:30 p.m.
