Women's Hoops Team Downs Central

PELLA, Iowa - The Elmhurst College women's basketball team wrapped up its two-game road trip to Iowa with a 63-61 win over Central College. The Bluejays moved to 9-1 with the win, while Central slipped to 0-6.
The two teams slugged it out for the majority of the game. The contest featured 11 ties and 10 lead changes. The largest lead by either team was eight points (40-32 by Elmhurst).
The Bluejays led by three points at 20-17 late in the first half, but a 6-3 run by Central put the Dutch up by three at halftime (23-20).
Central built its lead up to five points early in the second half, before the Bluejays answered back. Trailing 29-25, the Bluejays opened up a 15-3 run to take a 40-32 lead with just under 10 minutes remaining. Central chipped away before retaking the lead wat 52-50 with five minutes to play. With the score knotted at 59 with 1:40 to play, Central grabbed a two-point lead on a Morgan Martin lay-in with 48 seconds to play. Heather Furr (Plainfield-H.S.) evened the score for at 61-61 with a lay-up with 34 seconds to play. After a 3-point miss by Central, Furr hit the game winner with nine seconds to play, giving the Bluejays the 63-61 win.
For the contest, Elmhurst shot 38.9 percent from the floor (28-of-72) and 33.3 percent from beyond the arc (5-of-15). Central shot 35.1 percent from the floor (20-of-57) and 43.8 percent from downtown (7-of-16). The Dutch hit 14-of-17 free throws (82.4 percent) while Elmhurst made 2-of-4 attempts from the line (50 percent).
Aja Terrier (Evanston-Township) led the way for the Bluejays, finishing with 19 points and 11 rebounds. Furr chipped in with 11 points and eight rebounds, including the final six points of the game for Bluejays. Ashley Stein (Mundelein-H.S.) added 12 points and eight rebounds. Brittany Bobruk (Darien-Downers Grove South) added seven points off the bench.
Central was led by Analee Gray's 23 points on 8-of-18 shooting, including 4-of-6 from beyond the arc. Martin added 12 points and Emily De Jong and Stephanie Snitker each finished with nine.
Elmhurst is off until after the Holidays, returning to action on Thursday, January 5, when they host Rockford College at 7:30 p.m.
