Women's Hoops Team Falls in CCIW Tournament

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Elmhurst College women's basketball team closed out the season with a 78-57 loss to Illinois Wesleyan University in the first round of the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) Tournament.
Making their first appearance in the conference tournament in three seasons, the fourth-seeded Bluejays came out fired up and led the top-seeded Titans 35-34 at halftime.
Elmhurst (12-14 overall) could not sustain the momentum in the second half as Illinois Wesleyan (24-2) outscored the Bluejays 44-22 en route to the 78-57 victory.
The Bluejays trailed by a point (45-44) with 14:38 to play, but the Titans ripped of 14 straight points over the next 4:30 to take a commanding lead.
After shooting 44.0 percent (11-of-25) in the first half, the Bluejays struggled in the second, hitting only 32.3 percent (10-of-31) of its shots. The Bluejays finished the game shooting 37.5 percent (21-of-56) from the floor. Elmhurst was ice cold from beyond the arc, missing all 11 of its 3-point attempts.
Illinois Wesleyan finished the game shooting 49.2 percent (32-of-56) from the field and 25.0 percent (6-of-24) from downtown.
The Titans converted 14 Elmhurst turnovers into 19 points.
Elmhurst was led by Lyndsie Long's (Sugar Grove/Kaneland) 18 points and eight rebounds. Brittany Bobruk (Darien/Downers Grove South) added 10 points and seven rebounds while Christine Randick (Darien/Immaculate Conception) added nine points and five rebounds.
Elmhurst had no answer for Illinois Wesleyan's Claire Sheehan. Sheehan scored a game-high 27 points on 9-of-14 shooting. Christina Solari added a double-double, finishing with 12 points, 12 rebounds and seven assists in the win. Crystal Dye scored 12 and Sarah Bull added 11 for the Titans.
Elmhurst finished the season with a 12-14 record and an 8-6 mark in the CCIW. The 8-6 conference record was a six-game improvement from the 2006-07 season. With four returning starters and only two seniors graduating, the Bluejays appear to be poised for another successful year next season.
