Women's Basketball Team Falls at IWU

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Elmhurst College women's basketball team dropped to 11-13 overall and 7-6 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin following a 93-64 loss at Illinois Wesleyan University.

Illinois Wesleyan (22-2, 12-1 CCIW) clinched the CCIW Championship with the win and the right to host the CCIW Tournament.

Trailing 17-16 midway through the first half, Illinois Wesleyan used an 8-0 run to take a seven point lead. After the Bluejays pulled to within five (31-26) with 5:42 left, the Titans closed the half on a 14-4 run to take 45-30 lead at the half.

Illinois Wesleyan continued to pull away in the second half and cruised to the 93-64 win.

Elmhurst shot 37.5 percent (21-of-56) from the floor and 33.3 percent (5-of-15) from downtown. Illinois Wesleyan finished the game shooting 45.2 percent (33-of-73) from the field and 21.4 percent (6-of-28) from beyond the arc.

Elmhurst turned the ball over 26 times leading to 20 Illinois Wesleyan points.

Kelsey Monroe (West Chicago/H.S.) led the Bluejays by matching her season-high with 19 points. She finished the game shooting 6-of-9 from the floor. Brittany Bobruk (Darien/Downers Grove South) added 12 points and a team-high seven rebounds in the loss. Christine Randick (Downers Grove/Immaculate Conception) came off the bench to score 12.

All five of the Titans' starters reached double-figures in scoring. The five IWU starters outscored the entire Bluejay squad 83-64. Claire Sheehan led the Titans with 21 points by shooting 7-of-12 from the floor. Christina Solari added 18 points and 12 rebounds while Mallory Heydorn added 17 points and six assists. Crystal Dye chipped in with 15 while Sarah Bull scored 12 in the Titans' win.

The Bluejays will get another shot at the Titans in the first round of the CCIW Tournament. Elmhurst has secured the fourth seed in the upcoming tournament and will face the top-seeded Titans.

Elmhurst travels to Augustana College on Saturday, February 23.
