Bluejay Women's Hoops Team Downs North Park

CHICAGO, Ill. - The Elmhurst College women's basketball team upped its College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin record to 6-4 by defeating North Park University 66-50.
Elmhurst (10-11) overall maintained its two-game lead for fourth place in the CCIW with only four games remaining. The top four teams qualifying for the CCIW Tournament with the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament going to the conference tournament winner.
The Bluejays never trailed in the contest jumping out to a 10-1 lead in the opening five minutes. North Park (4-17, 2-8 CCIW) evened the score at 12-12, but the Bluejays responded with an 11-0 run to take a 23-12 lead. Elmhurst led 33-24 at halftime.
Elmhurst continued to pull away in the second half, as North Park struggled with its shooting hitting only 6-of-31 attempts (19.4 percent).
The Bluejays finished the game shooting 31.3 percent (26-of-83) from the field and from beyond the arc (5-of-16). Elmhurst struggled from the foul line, hitting only 9-of-18 attempts (50 percent).
The Vikings shot only 23.2 percent (13-of-56) from the floor and 46.2 percent (6-of-13) from downtown.
Elmhurst outrebounded North Park 49-45, including a 24-13 advantage on the offensive glass.
Lyndsie Long (Sugar Grove/Kaneland) paced Elmhurst with 21 points, nine rebounds, three steals, and three assists in the win. Candice Sutton (Matteson/Rich South) added 13 points and six assists while Kelsey Monroe (West Chicago/H.S.) dumped in 11 points.
North Park was led by Andrea Perez's 21-point, six-rebound, four-steal performance. Gerrylyn Soriano added 10 points and six points in the loss.
Elmhurst hosts Carthage College on Tuesday, February 12. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
