Bluejay Women Rip North Central 85-68

ELMHURST, Ill. - The Elmhurst College women's basketball team improved to 5-4 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) with an 85-68 win over North Central College.
With the win, the Bluejays opened up a two-game advantage for fourth place in the CCIW standings with only five games left in the regular season. The top four regular season teams qualify for the CCIW Tournament with the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament going to the conference tournament winner.
Elmhurst (9-11 overall) opened the game on a 15-2 run and never trailed in the contest. North Central (8-12, 3-6 CCIW) pulled to within four points at 17-13, put came no closer. The Bluejays led 43-27 at halftime and opened up a 25-point second half lead en route to the 85-68 win.
Elmhurst shot 51.6 percent (32-of-62) from the floor and 35.7 percent (5-of-14) from beyond the arc. The Bluejays hit 16-of-24 free throw attempts (66.7 percent).
Elmhurst capitalized on North Central's mistakes. The Bluejays converted 19 Cardinals' turnovers into 33 points. Elmhurst outscored North Central 10-0 on the fast break. The Bluejays also had a 43-28 advantage on the glass.
North Central shot 42.1 percent (24-of-57) from the field and 33.3 percent (3-of-9) from downtown.
Lyndsie Long (Sugar Grove/Kaneland) led Elmhurst with 19 points on 7-of-11 shooting. Brittany Bobruk (Darien/Donwers Grove South) added a double-double, finishing with 16 points (6-of-10 shooting) and 11 rebounds. Candice Sutton (Matteson/Rich South) added 12 points and seven assists in the win. Kelsey Monroe (West Chicago/H.S.) and Marissa Parker (St. Paul, Minn./Central) scored eight points apiece in the win.
North Central was led by Brianne Para's 18 points and seven rebounds. Barb Williams added 13 points and Nicole Kemme came off the bench to score 10.
Elmhurst travels to North Park University on Saturday, February 9. Tip-off is scheduled for 9:00 p.m.
