Women's Hoops Team Falls to Millikin 83-58

DECATUR, Ill. - The Elmhurst College women's basketball team slipped to 3-3 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) following an 83-58 road loss at Millikin University.

Elmhurst (7-10 overall) jumped out to a 10-point first half lead and carried a 38-36 lead into the lock room at halftime. While the Bluejays struggled in the second half, Millikin (13-4, 5-1 CCIW) outscored Elmhurst 47-20 to earn the 83-58 win.

The Bluejays' shooting cooled off in the second half as Elmhurst shot only 19.2 percent (21-of-64) from the floor and were 0-of-7 from downtown. Despite having problems with Elmhurst's press Millikin had no problem with its shooting. The Big Blue shot a whopping 72.2 percent (29-of-49) from the floor and 62.6 percent (5-of-8) from downtown.

Elmhurst finished the game shooting 32.8 percent (21-of-64) from the field and 26.3 percent (5-of-19) from beyond the arc.  Elmhurst converted 25 Big Blue turnovers into 24 points.

Candice Sutton (Matteson/Rich South) paced Elmhurst with 14 points and six rebounds while Lyndsie Long (Sugar Grove/Kaneland) added 11 points. Brittany Bobruk (Darien/Downers Grove South) and Kelsey Monroe (West Chicago/H.S.) each finished with eight points.

Elmhurst had no answer for Millikin's National Player of the Year candidate Lindsay Ippel. Ippel pumped in 31 points on 12-of-15 shooting while pulling down six rebounds. Ippel added four blocks and three steals. Kelley Steers added 14 points while Megan Mateer finished with 11.

Elmhurst travels to Wheaton College on Tuesday, January 29. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
