Bluejay Women Downed by Mary Hardin-Baylor

SAN ANTONIO, Texas - The Elmhurst College women's basketball team slipped to 3-7 overall following a 58-53 loss to the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor in the second round of the Trinity University (Texas) Holiday Tournament.

UMHB (3-4) jumped out to a 30-17 halftime lead as Elmhurst struggled with its shooting, hitting only 25.0 percent (7-of-28) from the field and 9.1 percent (1-of-11) from beyond the arc.

The Bluejays picked up their shooting in the second half, hitting 50 percent (13-of-26) from the floor and 66.7 percent (8-of-12) from 3-point range. Elmhurst pulled to within a three-point deficit with just under 4:30 to play, but UMHB padded the lead back to seven points. The Bluejays managed to get within three points with 16 seconds left but UMHB put the game away from the free throw line.

Kelsey Monroe (West Chicago/H.S.) led all scorers with 14 points on 5-of-8 shooting. Lyndsie Long (Sugar Grove/Kaneland) added 13 points and six rebounds for Elmhurst. Long was named to the all-tournament team for her efforts.

UMHB had a balanced scoring attack with all but two players scoring points. Anna Raines and Jessica Kelly each scored eight to pace UMHB.
