Track Teams Run at CCIW Championships

KENOSHA, Wis. - The Elmhurst College men's and women's track and field teams returned to action at the 2009 CCIW Championships. The men's team placed sixth while the women's squad finished seventh.
On the men's side, the Bluejays finished with 34 points. North Central College won the team title with 278.5 points. Brian McConnell was named the Men's Track Athlete of the Meet after winning both the 800 meters (1:55.69) and the 1,500 meters (3:56.91). Matt D'Angelo placed sixth in the 400 meters in 49.55 seconds while Mark D'Angelo finished right behind in seventh place in 49.99 seconds. Pat Austin finished in seventh place in the 5,000 meters with a time of 15:15.52.
On the women's side, the Bluejays finished in seventh place with 19 points. Illinois Wesleyan University won the title with 227 points. Katlyn Bednarski won the 5,000 meters after breaking the tape in 18:06.17. Michelle Smith earned all-conference honors by placing fourth in the steeplechase with a time of 11:54.08. Kate Pilson added an eighth place finish in the discus with a throw of 116-1.
