Track Teams Run at Elmhurst College Invitational

ELMHURST, Ill. - The Elmhurst College men's and women's track and field teams both had strong showings at the Elmhurst College Invitational. The women's team placed fourth with 72.5 points while the men's squad placed fifth with 80 points
On the women's side, the Bluejays placed fourth with 72.5 points, just a half point behind third-place Robert Morris College. The Bluejays dominated the 5,000 meters, sweeping the top four places. Katlyn Bednarski won the event in 17:52.90 while Michelle Smith placed second in 19:01.47, Rebekah Clark (19:11.96) and Megan Johnson (19:27.03) placed third and fourth, respectively. The Bluejays were also strong in the shot put. Kate Pilson placed third in the event with a toss of 10.49 meters while Margie Leahu placed sixth (10.28 meters) and Erin Thompson placed seventh (8.93 meters). Pilson also placed fourth in the discus (32.77 meters) while Leahu (31.08 meters) and Thompson (30.74 meters) placed seventh and eighth, respectively, in the hammer throw. Thompson added a sixth place finish in the javelin (19.61 meters) while Pilson placed eighth (18.30 meters). Tracy Brits placed third in the 400 hurdles in 1:11.61 and added a fourth-place finish in the 100 hurdles with a time of 16.75 seconds). Stephanie Thomson placed fifth in the 200 meters in 29.31 seconds. Amanda Anderson finished sixth in the 800 meters with a time of 2:33.88. Anderson also placed fourth in the 3,000 meters in 11:02.23.
On the men's side, the Bluejays finished in fifth place with 76 points, just 10 points behind fourth-place finisher Trinity Christian College. Brian McConnell won the 1,500 meters with a time of 3:59.88. Ken Ptack finished third in the steeplechase with a time of 10:27.50, while Danny DeCleene added an eighth-place finish (11:09.60). Pat Austin scored a fourth-place finish in the 5,000 meters with a time of 15:36.28. Neil Bonk placed sixth in both the 110 hurdles (17.85 seconds) and the 400 hurdles (1:04.49). Tony Chan added a seventh-place finish in the 110 hurdles in 18.30 seconds. Chan also finished seventh in the long jump (5.52 meters). Daniel Dwyer added a fourth-place finish in the triple jump (11.21 meters) and an eighth-place finish in the long jump with a mark of 5.41 meters. Ryan Wasilewski placed fifth in the shot put (11.92 meters) while Mark Pufundt finished sixth (11.32 meters). Wasilewski also placed fourth in the discus throw (34.39 meters) and sixth in the hammer throw (32.73 meters). Mark D'Angelo placed third in the 100 meters with a time of 11.45 seconds. Matt Forster added a seventh-place finish in the 400 meters in 54.14 seconds. Forster also placed third in the javelin with a throw of 44.86 meters.
