Bluejay Track Teams Run at CCIW Championships
CHICAGO, Ill. - The Elmhurst College men's and women's track and field teams returned to action by running at the CCIW Outdoor Championships. The women's team placed seventh, while the men's team finished in eighth place.
On the women's side, the Bluejays scored 13 points. Augustana College (171 points) edged Wheaton College (168 points) to win the team title.
Michelle Smith (Berkley, Mich./H.S.) scored a pair of all-conference finishes to lead the Bluejays. Smith placed seventh in the steeplechase with a time of 12:13.17 while also placing seventh in the 5,000 meters in 18:57.87. Katlyn Bednarski (Des Plaines/Maine West) also earned all-conference honors in the 5,000 meters by placing sixth in 18:51.51. Molli Hermiston (Eldridge, Iowa/North Scott) placed fourth in the high jump by clearing a height of 1.46 meters.
On the men's side, the Bluejays placed eighth with 18 points. Augustana College ended North Central College's 23-year title run by winning the team title with 240.5 points.
Brian McConnell (Delavan/H.S.) led the Bluejays by winning the 1,500 meters for the second straight year. McConnell broke the tape in 3:54.84, an NCAA provisional qualifying time. Mike Ptack (Oak Park/Oak Park-River Forest) placed fifth in 9:43.23. Ryan Wasilewski (Springfield/Lanphier) earned all-conference honors by placing eighth in the shot put with a toss of 13.21 meters.
