Track Teams Place Seventh at CCIW Indoors
KENOSHA, Wis. - The Elmhurst College men's and women's track and field teams both placed seventh at the 2008 CCIW Indoor Championships.
The men's team placed seventh with 20 points while the women's squad finished seventh with 10 points. North Central College won the men's title with 220 points while Illinois Wesleyan University captured the women's team title with 187.5 points.
On the men's side, the Bluejays were led by Brian McConnell's (Delavan/H.S.) first-place finish in the mile run. McConnell crossed the finish line in 4:17.4 to earn the individual title. Pat Austin (Yorkville/H.S.) earned all-conference honors by placing fifth in the 5,000 meters in 15:00.27. Ryan Wasilewski (Springfield/Lanphier) also earned all-conference honors by placing sixth in the weight throw. Wasilewski took sixth with a throw of 46-2.
On the women's side, the Bluejays had a pair of all-conference runners in the 5,000 meters. Katlyn Bednarski (Des Plaines/Maine West) placed sixth in 18:55.81 while Michelle Smith (Berkley, Mich./H.S.) finished right behind in seventh place with a time of 18:57.78.
