Bluejay Wrestling Team Downs Augustana 33-9
ROCK ISLAND, Ill. - The Elmhurst College wrestling team, ranked seventh in the latest National Wrestling Coaches Association poll, improved to 10-1 in dual meet competition, defeating Augustana College 33-9.
After receiving a forfeit at heavyweight the Bluejays won six of the final nine matches to cruise to the victory. Eighth-ranked Jake Oster (Lockport) pinned George Gogonas in 2:45 to give the Bluejays a win at 125 pounds. Kenny Thomas (Richmond, Mich./H.S.) pinned Darrell Shields in 1:48 at 141 pounds. Jeff Kastel (Hinsdale/Central), ranked eighth at 149 pounds, scored a 22-7 technical fall over Augustana's Beau Bielecki. Eighth-ranked Kyle Katz (Des Plaines/Maine West) earned a 3-1 victory over Jake Mango at 157 pounds. Tim Gleich (Chicago/Marist) defeated Zac Holland 13-3 at 174 pounds and Demetrios Vrettos (Cicero/Morton East) knocked off Augustana's John Parkhurst 6-4 at 197 pounds.
