Bluejay Wrestlers Take 11th at Pete Wilson Invite
WHEATON, Ill. - The Elmhurst College wrestling team, ranked 13th in the latest NWCA poll, placed 11th out of 31 teams at the 2009 Pete Wilson Invitational at Wheaton College.
Elmhurst finished with 46.0 points. UW-Parkside captured the team title with 145.0 points.
The Bluejays, who were competing without several regular starters, had four individuals place in the top eight of their respective weight classes.
Greg Horn was the top finisher for the Bluejays, placing third at 165 pounds. Horn advanced to the semifinals with a pair of wins, before falling to eventual champion Ben Youel of North Central 8-1. Horn rebounded from the defeat by scoring two straight wins, including an 11-7 win over UW-Platteville's Ryan Higgins in the third-place match. Horn finished the tournament with a 4-1 record.
March Corsello added a fifth-place finish at 285 pounds. Corsello advanced to the semifinals before falling to UW-LaCcrosse's Dan Laurent 4-2. After falling to Heidelberg's Tony Carothers in the consolation semifinals, Corsello topple Truman State's Loyde Braidlow 8-0 in the fifth-place match.
Jake Denhof and Frank Savegnago added eighth place finishes at 133 pounds, and 174 pounds, respectively.
Elmhurst competes at the CCIW Championships on Saturday, February 14.
