Bluejay Cross Country Teams Run at Illinois Intercollegiate Invitational
NORMAL, Ill. - The Elmhurst College men's and women's cross country teams returned to action by running at the Illinois Intercollegiate Invitational at Illinois State University. The men's team placed 11th with 288 points while the women's squad placed 12th with 285 points.
Marisa Mele (Naperville/Neuqua Valley) led the Bluejay women with an eighth-place finish in 18:15.66. Maggie McTeague (Oak Forest/H.S.) crossed the finish line in 49th place with a time of 19:30.94 while Laura Grabowski (Woodridge/Downers Grove South) placed 92nd in 20:29.03. Emily Baldyga (Minier/Olympia) finished 98th in 20:32.03 while Katlyn Bednarski (Des Plaines/Maine West) rounded out the Bluejays' scoring with a 107th place finish with a time of 20:51.60.
On the men's side, Mike Ptack (Oak Park/Oak Park-River Forest) led the way with a 23rd place finish in 25:31.54. Pat Austin (Yorkville/H.S.) finished just behind in 28th place in 25:44.78 while Bob Spelich (Peru/LaSalle-Peru) finished 81st in 26:47.51. Drew Hatzold (Itasca/Lake Park) placed 88th with a time of 26:58.42 while Travis Shepard (Sandwich/H.S.) rounded out Elmhurst's scoring in 96th place with a time of 27:14.55.
The Bluejays run at the Augustana College Invitational on Friday, September 21.
