Cross Country Teams Run at Earlybird Invite

ELMHURST, Ill. - The Elmhurst College men's and women's cross country teams kicked off the 2009 season by hosting the Elmhurst Earlybird Invitational. The women's team placed third, while the men's squad finished sixth.

On the women's side the Bluejays totaled 81 points to place third. Wheaton College won the team title with 56 points while Lewis University finished in second place with 66 points.

Katlyn Bednarski was the top finisher for the Bluejays. Bednarski placed seventh overall in 15:43. Shauna Potrawski placed 14th with a time of 16:09 while Hannah Williams scored an 18th-place finish with a time of 16:15. Lauren Williams crossed the finish line in 16:31, good for a 26th place finish. Rebekah Clark and Amanda Andersen finished right behind in 27th and 28th place, respectively. Both runners recorded an identical 16:33 time. Meghan Johnson rounded out the Bluejays top-seven by placing 34th with a time of 16:40.

On the men's side, the Bluejays totaled 174 points to take sixth. Illinois Institute of Technology finished in fifth place with 167 points while the University of St. Francis placed fourth with 148 points. North Central College won the event with a perfect score of 15.

Freshman Jake Austin led the Bluejays with a 28th place finish in 20:27. Tom McGrath added a 40th place finish in 20:42 while Jeff Camp placed 53rd with a time of 20:56. Nathan Selling scored a 55th place finish in 21:10 while Ken Ptack crossed the finish line in 76th place (21:35). Andrew Dunham placed 113th (22:24) and Chris Crowell finished in 121st place (22:37) to round out the Bluejays' top-seven.

Both teams run at the Illinois Intercollegiate Invitational at Illinois State University on Friday, September 18.
