He led the Bluejays in singles and doubles victories as both a freshman and sophomore. In 2004, Hegner posted an 11-8 singles and 9-9 doubles record and earned second-team all-conference honors. The team compiled a 48-32 record in four seasons with Hegner, after being winless in 2001. A math major, Hegner maintained a perfect 4.00 grade-point average.
The Bluejay men’s tennis team finished the 2005 season with a 13-8 overall record and a 3-2 mark in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW). The Bluejays placed fourth in the CCIW Tournament.
