Five Bluejays Earn All-Conference Honors
ELMHURST, Ill. - Five members of the Elmhurst College men's soccer team have been named to the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin's all-conference team. Four Bluejays earned first-team recognition, including goalkeeper Britt Blackwell (Lake Zurich/H.S.) who was named the CCIW Player of the Year.
Joining Blackwell on the first team are: Jon Brehm (Sinking Spring, Pa./Wilson), Tom Hunka (Lake Zurich/H.S.) and Jake Pahr (Cary/Cary-Grove). Andrew Smith (Fort Myers, Fla./H.S.) earned second-team recognition.
Blackwell closed out the season with an impressive 0.83 goals against average. He recorded 101 saves while posting nine shutouts. He allowed a career-low 17 goals in 21 games. In CCIW play, he allowed only four goals in seven games and posted a 0.59 goals against average.
Blackwell, who previously earned second-team all-conference recognition during the 2005 season, closed out his career with a 1.29 goals against average. He posted four-year totals of 428 saves and 17 shutouts. He owns every career goalkeeper record at Elmhurst College.
Brehm, a freshman forward, had an impressive debut season for the Bluejays, leading the team in goals (14) and total points (36) while co-leading the squad in assists (eight). Brehm was twice named the CCIW "Player of the Week" this season. He set a new Elmhurst single-game record for goals scored by scoring four times in the Bluejays' win over Manchester on October 20. Brehm also established a new single-game record for total points with eight. He reached eight points in the win over Manchester and also tallied eight points (three goals, two assists) in an Elmhurst win over Augustana College on October 6. Brehm ranked second in the CCIW in goals (five), assists (four) and total points (14).
Hunka, a senior midfielder helped direct the Bluejays' offense from the middle of the field after switching from forward to midfielder in the offseason. He finished this season with three goals, two assists and eight points.
Hunka closed out his career as Elmhurst's all-time leader in total points with 52. He is the Bluejays’ career co-leader in goals (18) and assists (16).
Pahr, a sophomore forward, enjoyed a breakout season, finishing second on the team in goals scored (13) and total points (34). He co-led the squad in assists with eight. A two-time CCIW "Player of the Week" selection this season, Pahr had an eight-game goal streak earlier in the year. Pahr led the CCIW in both goals (six) and total points (15), while ranking third in the league in assists (three).
In two seasons with the Bluejays, Pahr ranks as the school's career co-leader in goals with 18. He also ranks second all-time in total points with 44.
Smith, a senior defender, earned his first all-conference recognition by anchoring a Bluejay defense that held opponents to only 17 goals in 21 games. The 17 goals allowed is a school record for fewest goals allowed in one season. Smith also recorded a pair of assists this season.
Smith was a four-year starter at defender and closed out his career with three total assists.
The Bluejays finished the 2007 season with a 14-5-2 overall record and finished 6-1 in the CCIW. Elmhurst also advanced to their first-ever CCIW Tournament Championship game.
