Men's Soccer Team Falls in CCIW Tournament Finals

WHEATON, Ill. - The Elmhurst College men's soccer team dropped a 3-0 contest to Wheaton College in the CCIW Tournament Finals. Elmhurst moved to 14-5-2 with the loss while Wheaton improved to 13-6-1. Wheaton earned the CCIW's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament with the victory.
Wheaton jumped on the scoreboard in the 36th minute when Ben Theimer netted an unassisted goal. The Thunder carried a 1-0 lead into the locker room at halftime.
Wheaton tacked on a pair of goals in the second half to put the game away. Matt Swartz scored off a Steve Poppe feed in the 72nd minute to make the score 2-0. Strider Elass gave the Thunder a 3-0 lead in the 79th minute when he scored of an assist from Swartz.
Elmhurst was outshot 21-8 in the contest.
Elmhurst goal keeper Britt Blackwell (Lake Zurich/H.S.) recorded eight saves in goal. The Thunder's BJ Dons stopped six shots, including a late penalty kick by Elmhurst.
The Bluejays will now have a two-day wait to see if they'll receive an at-large bid to the NCAA Divsion III Tournament. The NCAA is scheduled to announce the Division III tournament field on Monday, November 5, at 10:00 a.m.
