Elmhurst's Maple and Lomnicki Named CCIW Players of the Week

ELMHURST, Ill. - Elmhurst College football players Kyle Maple (Kaneville/Kaneland) and Tyler Lomnicki (Elmhurst/York) have each been named CCIW Players of the Week.  Maple was tabbed as the league's Defensive Player of the Week while Lomnicki was chosen as the Special Teams Player of the Week for their parts in the Bluejays' 52-3 season opening win over Benedictine University.

The league's Offensive Player of the Week honors went to Emmanuel Minter of Millikin.

Maple, a senior safety, led the Bluejay defense in the team's win over Benedictine. A first-team all-CCIW pick in 2006, Maple kicked off the 2007 season by recording a team-high eight tackles, including seven solo stops in the Bluejays' victory. He also picked off a pass that he returned 39 yards for a touchdown.

Lomnicki, a sophomore place kicker, accounted for 10 of Elmhurst's 52 points in the win. He was perfect in the kicking game for the night, converting all seven extra-point attempts, and booting a 26-yard field goal.

The Bluejays are idle next week, but return to action on Saturday, September 15, when they travel to the University of Chicago for a 6:00 p.m. contest.
