Volleyball Team Improves to 11-2

WHEATON, Ill., - The Elmhurst College volleyball team, ranked ninth in the latest AVCA/CSTV poll, improved to 11-2 overall by winning their opening matches at the Wheaton College Invitational. The Bluejays toppled Benedictine University 30-20, 30-18, 30-18 and capped the night with a 30-23, 31-29, 30-20 win over North Park University.
ELMHURST 3, BENEDICTINE 0 – The Bluejays cruised to the three-game win over the Eagles led by Nicole Carlson’s (Forreston-H.S.) 11 kills and six digs. Erin Whitehead (Lake Bluff-Lake Forest) added nine kills and 14 digs in the win while Carly Bearwald (Northbrook-Glenbrook North) finished with seven kills and seven digs. Lindsay Johnson (Rockford-Boylan) totaled 31 assists, six kills and four blocks. Jessica Nelson (Columbus, Ohio-Bishop Watterson) led the team in digs with 23 while also serving up a pair of aces. Morgan Jones (Seymour, Ind.-H.S.) led the team in blocks with six.
ELMHURST 3, NORTH PARK 0 – The Bluejays handed the Vikings a 3-0 loss for the second time in four days. Bearwald and Carlson each pounded down 14 kills in the win. Carlson added 11 digs while Bearwald finished with three blocks. Whitehead finished with nine kills, seven digs and three aces. Nelson tallied 36 digs and Johnson totaled 40 assists, eights digs and three blocks. Katie Ackerman (Mt. Juliet, Tenn.-H.S.) and Jones each finished with four blocks.
The Bluejays take on the University of Chicago tomorrow morning at 11:00 a.m. on day two of the tournament.
