Randy Wright Named All-American

ELMHURST, Ill. (December 22, 2008) - Elmhurst football player Randy Wright has been named a third-team All-American by D3football.com.

Wright, a sophomore linebacker, earned first-team all-conference honors earlier this season. He led the Bluejays' defense with 119 tackles (61 solo), and 22.5 tackles for loss. Wright also led the team in sacks with 9.5 and quarterback hurries (nine). His 22.5 tackles for loss ranked third in the nation and is a new single-season school record. His 119 total tackles is the eighth-highest single-season total. His 9.5 sacks is the third-highest single-season total in Elmhurst history and ranked 15th in the nation. A two-time CCIW Defensive Player of the Week this season, Wright led the CCIW in total tackles (87), assisted tackles (40), and tackles for loss (14.0). He ranked second in the league in quarterback sacks (5.0).

Wright is the first Elmhurst player to earn All-America honors from D3football.com since the awards began in 1999.

Elmhurst finished the season with a 7-3 overall record and a 4-3 record in CCIW play. The seven victories was the most victories for Elmhurst since the 1985 season.
