ELMHURST, Ill. - Elmhurst football player Matt D'Angelo has been named an ESPN the Magazine first-team Academic All-American. The award is voted on by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

D'Angelo is the 20th Elmhurst student-athlete to earn Academic All-America honors since the 2000-01 season. He's the first Elmhurst football player to earn the distinction.

D'Angelo, a senior wide receiver, earned first-team all-conference honors at wide receiver after recording the best single-season ever by an Elmhurst wideout. In addition, he led the Bluejays in punt returns (27 for 221 yards and a touchdown) and kick returns (31 for 573 yards). In the Bluejays' season-opening win over Benedictine, D'Angelo tied the school's single-game reception mark with 13. He established new single-game records for receiving yardage (256), receiving touchdowns (five). He was named the CCIW's Offensive Player of the Week three times this season.
