Five Bluejays Earn All-CCIW Honors
ELMHURST, Ill. - Five members of the Elmhurst College football team have earned all-conference honors from the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW). Matt D'Angelo and Randy Wright both earned first-team all-conference honors while Jon Janus, Joe Stumpfoll, and Kyle Foster all earned second-team honors.
D'Angelo, a senior, earned first-team all-conference honors at wide receiver after recording the best single-season ever by an Elmhurst wideout. D'Angelo tied Elmhurst's single-season record for pass receptions with 67. He set new single-season records for receiving yardage (1,149), and receiving touchdowns (13). In addition, he led the Bluejays in punt returns (27 for 221 yards and a touchdown) and kick returns (31 for 573 yards). In the Bluejays' season-opening win over Benedictine, D'Angelo tied the school's single-game reception mark with 13. He established new single-game records for receiving yardage (256), receiving touchdowns (five). He was named the CCIW's Offensive Player of the Week three times this season.
Wright, a sophomore, earned first-team all-conference honors at linebacker. He led the Bluejays' defense with 119 tackles (61 solo), and 22.5 tackles for loss. Wright also led the team in sacks with 9.5 and quarterback hurries (nine). His 22.5 tackles for loss is a new single-season school record. His 119 total tackles is the eighth-highest single-season total. His 9.5 sacks is the third-highest single-season total in Elmhurst history. Wright was named the CCIW's Defensive Player of the week twice this season.
Janus was the only freshman named to the all-conference team, earning second-team honors at defensive back. Janus started every game at safety for the Bluejays. He finished the season second on the team in total tackles (80) and solo tackles (49). He also recorded a pair of interceptions, broke up five passes and tallied three quarterback hurries.
Stumpfoll, a junior, earned his first all-conference selection at defensive tackle. Stumpfoll started all 10 games and and totaled 25 tackles. He finished third on the team in quarterback sacks with 3.5. He also had 6.5 tackles for loss and returned an interception for a touchdown.
Foster, a senior, earned his first all-conference honor as an offensive lineman. Foster helped anchor the left side of the offensive line in a season when the Bluejays broke a team record for passing yardage (2,629). In addition, the Bluejays converted 34-of-39 attempts in the red zone.
Elmhurst finished the season with a 7-3 overall record and a 4-3 record in CCIW play. The seven victories was the most victories for Elmhurst since the 1985 season.
