D'Angelo Named CCIW Player of the Week
ELMHURST, Ill., October 14, 2008 - Elmhurst College football player Matt D'Angelo (McHenry/East) has been named the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin's (CCIW) Offensive Player of the Week for the second time this season.
D'Angelo, a senior wide receiver, helped guide the Bluejays erase a 19-point third quarter deficit and score a 29-26 win over Carthage College this past Saturday (October 11). D'Angelo hauled in eight passes for 139 yards and two touchdowns in the win. Seven of his eight receptions came after the Bluejays were trailing by 19 points in the third quarter. D'Angelo caught five passes and scored both touchdowns (14 and seven yards) in Elmhurst's final two scoring drives of the fourth quarter.
At the halfway point of the season, D'Angelo has totaled 35 receptions for 598 yards and eight touchdowns.
Earlier this season, D'Angelo garnered Player of the Week honors after he accounted for all five of Elmhurst's touchdowns in the Bluejays' season-opening win over Benedictine. He established new school records for single game touchdowns (five), single game touchdown receptions (five), and receiving yardage (256). He also tied the school's single-game mark for pass receptions with 13.
Elmhurst improved to 4-1 overall and 1-1 in the CCIW with the win over Carthage. The Bluejays host North Park University on Saturday, October 18, as part of the College’s annual Homecoming Weekend.
