Brent Ruch Named CCCIW Player of the Week

ELMHURST, Ill., - For the third time this season, Elmhurst College senior Brent Ruch (Farmer City/Blue Ridge) has been named the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin's (CCIW) Player of the Week in men's basketball.

Ruch, the Bluejays' starting center, helped lead Elmhurst into first place in the CCIW standings with a perfect 2-0 record last week. Ruch averaged a double-double with 23.5 points and 11 rebounds over a pair of contests. For the week, he shot totaled 47 points, 22 rebounds, five assists, and two steals while shooting .762 (16-of-21) from the field and .789 (15-of-19) from the free throw line.

On Wednesday, (January 28), Ruch scored a team-high 16 points and grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds in the Bluejays' 86-66 win at Carthage College. Ruch shot 6-of-8 from the floor and totaled two assists in the victory. On Saturday (January 31), Ruch scored a season-high 31 points and pulled down 10 rebounds in Elmhurst's 98-92 win over Illinois Wesleyan University. Ruch shot 10-of-13 from the field while also totaling three assists and a pair of steals. His 31 points were just one point shy of his career high of 32.

Ruch currently leads the Bluejays in scoring and rebounding, averaging 18.5 points, and 7.5 boards per contest. He also leads the Bluejays in steals (19), while ranking second on the squad in assists (41) and blocked shots (18).

A two-time first-team All-CCIW honoree, Ruch earned fourth-team All-America honors from D3hoops.com. He currently ranks eighth in school history in scoring with 1,363 points. His 702 rebounds ranks sixth all-time while his 93 career blocked shots ranks second in school history. Ruch needs just one more steal to become only the second player in school history to record over 1,000 points, 500 rebounds, and 100 steals in a career.

The Bluejays, currently ranked 15th in the latest D3hoops.com poll, carry a 15-4 record into Wednesday's (February 4) home match-up against nationally-ranked Augustana College. Elmhurst has won six straight contests and sits at the top of the CCIW standings with a 6-2 league record.
