Men's Hoops Team Picked Third in CCIW; 17th in Nation

ELMHURST, Ill. - The Elmhurst College men's basketball team has been picked place third in the conference in a pre-season poll of the league's coaches. In addition, the Bluejays have also been ranked 17th in the nation in the D3hoops.com preseason poll.

The Bluejays, who return all-conference selections Brent Ruch and Ryan Burks, finished third in the CCIW's pre-season poll with 38 points. Wheaton College, who advanced to the elite eight of the NCAA Tournament last season, has been picked to capture the conference title. The Thunder finished the poll with 46 points, including five first-place votes. Three-time defending CCIW champion Augustana College has been tabbed for second, finishing the poll with 43 points and the final three first-place votes.

Illinois Wesleyan University finished fourth in the poll with 32 points while Carthage College totaled 25 points for fifth place. North Central (19), North Park (14), and Millikin (7) rounded out the preseason poll. Each coach votes for the seven other teams in the league and are not allowed to vote for their own teams.

Elmhurst also earned national recognition in D3hoops.com's pre-season Top-25 poll, earning 187 points to place 17th. 

The CCIW is well represented in D3hoops.com's poll. Augustana is ranked second in the nation with Wheaton College right behind in third place. Illinois Wesleyan is ranked 18th in the nation.

Elmhurst kicks off the 2008-09 season on Saturday, November 15, by traveling to MacMurray College.
