Men's Hoops Team Clinches Spot in CCIW Tournament

ELMHURST, Ill. - The Elmhurst College men's basketball team pounded North Central College 88-67 in its final regular season home game. The win, coupled with a North Park University win over Carthage College, secured the Bluejays their third straight trip to the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) Tournament.
Elmhurst (18-6, 8-5 CCIW) trailed only in the opening minutes before knotting the score at 14-all with 14:11 to play in the first half. The Bluejays closed the half on a 32-18 run to take a 46-32 lead at the half.
The Bluejays continued to pull away in the second half and cruised to the 86-67 victory.
Elmhurst shot a 54.8 percent (34-of-62) from the floor and 54.5 percent (12-of-22) from downtown. Elmhurst played an unselfish game, as the team combined for 28 assists on 34 buckets. The Bluejays also dominated on the glass, outrebounding North Central 37-23.
Playing in his final regular season home game, Jared Hintzsche (Kirkland/Hiawatha) scored a career-high 17 points on 6-of-8 shooting. Ryan Burks (Manito/Midwest Central) added 17 points and seven rebounds in the win. Chris Childs (Barrington/H.S.) and Dustin Bainter (Macomb/H.S.) finished with eight points apiece. Childs dished out seven assists while Bainter finished with six. Brent Ruch (Farmer City/Blue Ridge) added seven points and seven rebounds in the victory.
North Central (10-14, 4-9 CCIW) shot 49.1 percent (26-of-53) from the floor and 38.5 percent (5-of-13) from long distance. Matt Rogers led the Cardinals with a game-high 21 points on a 8-of-13 shooting performance Chris Drennan added 17 points and seven rebounds while Reid Barringer added 13 points in the loss.
Elmhurst travels to Wheaton College (18-6, 8-5 CCIW) on Saturday, February 23. The winner of the game is guaranteed to earn at least the third seed in the conference tournament while the loser of the game will earn the tournament's fourth seed. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
