Bluejay Men Fall at Illinois Wesleyan 75-71

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Elmhurst College men's basketball team dropped to 15-6 overall and 5-5 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) following a 75-71 loss at Illinois Wesleyan University.
Illinois Wesleyan (13-8, 7-3 CCIW) led 38-30 at halftime and held off a late second-half rally by the Bluejays to earn the win.
The Titans led by as many as 11 points early in the second half before the Bluejays began to cut into the Titans' lead. Elmhurst pulled to within three points with 2:42 to play on a Dustin Bainter (Macomb/H.S.) basket, but the Titans continued to answer, pushing their lead back to five points after each Bluejay basket down the stretch.
Elmhurst finished the game shooting 50.0 percent (24-of-48) from the floor but only 27.3 percent (3-of-11) from beyond the arc.
Illinois Wesleyan finished the game shooting 50.9 percent from the field (28-of55) and 28.6 percent (4-of-14) from downtown. The Titans struggled from the foul line, hitting only 15-of-35 attempts (42.9 percent).
Elmhurst struggled on the glass, as Illinois Wesleyan outrebounded the Bluejays 36-30, including a 13-3 advantage on the offensive glass.
Brent Ruch (Farmer City/Blue Ridge) led the Bluejays with 25 points on 11-of-14 shooting. Ruch finished with a double-double by adding 10 rebounds. Ryan Burks (Manito/Midwest Central) added 15 points and seven boards in the loss. Bainter scored nine for Elmhurst.
Illinois Wesleyan was led by Darius Gant's 20 points and 13 rebounds. Travis Rosenkranz added 13 points and Doug Sexauer scored 11.
Elmhurst travels to Carthage College on Wednesday, February 13. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
