Men's Hoops Team Topples Millikin

DECATUR, Ill. - The Elmhurst College men's basketball team knocked off Millikin University 87-72 to improve to 15-5 overall and 5-4 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW).
Elmhurst came storming out of the gate, shooting 59.4 percent (19-of-32) from the floor and a whopping 77.8 percent (7-of-8) from 3-point range. The Bluejays led 45-26 at the half.
Millikin (9-11, 2-7 CCIW) climbed back into the game late in the second half, trimming the Bluejays' lead down to five points (68-63) late in the second half, but Elmhurst responded by closing the game on a 19-9 run.
The Bluejays finished the game shooting 60.7 percent (34-of-56) from the field and 60.0 percent (9-of-15) from downtown. The Bluejays hit 10-of-11 (90.9 percent) of its free throw attempts.
Millikin finished the game shooting 47.5 percent (28-of-59) from the field and 35.0 percent (7-of-20) from beyond the arc.
Elmhurst had a 29-24 advantage on the glass.
Ryan Burks (Manito/Midwest Central) recorded his second double-double of the season by scoring 21 points (6-of-11 shooting) and pulling down 10 rebounds to lead Elmhurst. Brent Ruch (Farmer City/Blue Ridge) added 18 points (7-of-10) shooting and eight boards. Robert Strzemp (Oak Park/Oak Park-River Forest) finished with 16 points while Matt Ryder (Bettendorf, Iowa/Pleasant Valley) scored nine.
Millikin was led by Joscar Demby's 16 points and eight rebounds. John Harmsen and Dana Givens each scored 14 for the Big Blue.
Elmhurst travels to Illinois Wesleyan University on Saturday, February 9. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
