Men's Hoops Squad Blasts North Park 66-39

CHICAGO, Ill. - The Elmhurst College men's basketball team, ranked 13th in the latest D3hoops.com poll, improved to 13-3 overall by hammering North Park University 66-39.
Elmhurst (13-3, 3-2 CCIW) never trailed in the contest and led 28-18 at halftime. The Bluejays continued to pull away in the second half, opening up a 30 point lead (59-29) with 5:49 to play. Elmhurst outscored North Park 38-21 in the second half.
Elmhurst finished the contest shooting 54.3 percent (25-of-46) from the floor and 58.3 percent (7-of-12) from downtown. North Park (10-6, 2-3 CCIW) struggled all night long with its shooting. The Vikings finished the game shooting only 22.2 percent (12-of-54) from the floor. North Park shot 27.3 percent (6-of-22) in the first half and only 18.8 percent (6-of-32) in the second. The Vikings 3-point shot abandoned them as they finished the game hitting only 3-of-23 attempts (13.0 percent) from beyond the arc.
Elmhurst dominated on the glass. outrebounding North Park by a whopping 22 boards (42-20). North Park did win the turnover battle, as the Vikings scored 21 points off of 20 Elmhurst turnovers.
Brent Ruch (Farmer City/Blue Ridge) led Elmhurst with a double-double, finishing with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Ryan Burks (Manito/Midwest Central) added 13 points and six boards. Chris Childs (Barrington/H.S.) came off the bench to score 11. Robert Strzemp (Oak Park/Oak Park-River Forest) added nine points while Matt Ryder (Bettendorf, Iowa/Pleasant Valley) added eight.
North Park did not have a player finish with double figures in scoring. The Vikings were led by Jason Gordon's eight points. Nick Williams scored seven while Joe Capalbo added six.
Elmhurst plays host to Wheaton College on Saturday, January 26, at 7:30 p.m.
