Bluejay Men Knock Off Manchester 76-62

ELMHURST, Ill. The Elmhurst College men's basketball team, ranked 14th in the latest D3hoops.com poll, improved to 8-1 on the season with a 76-62 win over Manchester College.
After leading 38-30 at halftime, Elmhurst broke the game wide open in the second half. After an opening bucket by Manchester (3-8), the Bluejays ripped of 12 straight points to take a 50-32 lead. A 16-8 run over the next nine minutes gave Elmhurst a 66-40 lead with 7:30 to play. The Bluejays then cruised to the 76-62 win.
Brent Ruch (Farmer City/Blue Ridge) and Ryan Burks (Manito/Midwest Central) each scored 15 points to pace the Bluejays. Ruch added six rebounds and five assists. Jared Hintzsche (Kirkland/Hiawatha) came off the bench to score eight points while Matt Ryder (Bettendorf, Iowa/Pleasant Valley) and Chris Childs (Barrington/H.S.) each contributed seven points.
With two games in less than 24 hours this coming weekend, the Bluejays were able rest several key players down the stretch, as no player saw more than 23 minutes of playing time.
Elmhurst finished the game shooting 48.2 percent (27-of-56) from the field and 40.0 percent (8-of-20) from beyond the arc. Manchester shot 48.8 percent (20-of-41) from the field and 27.8 percent (5-of-18).
Jamal Wade led Manchester with 18 points while Mitch Schaefer chipped in with 11.
Elmhurst plays at Benedictine on Saturday (January 5) at 7:00 p.m. The Bluejays then host Alma College on Sunday (January 6 - 4:00 pm) in a make-up game from an earlier scheduled contest.
